On-Line Questionnaire for Chinese Placement

This on-line placement procedure is designed to place students in CHIN-Titled courses appropriate to their language proficiency and needs, and is also required for students thinking of registering in ASIA389-399. Students are responsible for accurately filling out this questionnaire to provide background information about their proficiency level in, and prior exposure to, the Chinese language.

This process will take approximately 5-10 minutes. After completing the questionnaire, you will be given a “Placement Approval” for legitimate course registration. You are welcome to challenge courses higher than the approved level if you believe you are capable of; but you cannot take courses lower than the approved level.

Warning: According to University’s Academic Regulation, the following misconducts are subject to penalty:

  1. Submitting false records or information, in writing or orally, or failing to provide relevant information when requested.
  2. Falsifying or submitting false documents, transcripts or other academic credentials.

Important Note:

The result of the placement will be based on the information you provide. Once you click the “Confirm” button, you will not be allowed to go backwards and change the submitted information. Please be very careful in checking your answers before you go to the next page.

Students who have completed more than Grade 12 in Chinese speaking regions such as China, Taiwan or Hong Kong are over-qualified for ANY CHIN-titled courses at UBC. This placement procedure is not for them.
